Morton
Annenberg Witness:
A Legacy
The
artist's daughter, Marcia Annenberg, also an artist, curated
this exhibit in loving memory of the centenary of her father’s birth. BIO Morton Annenberg graduated from Cooper Union in 1934. He later became interested in photography and worked as a free-lance photographer for the Uptown Press, the Argyr Lekas Spanish Dance Co., Arts Interaction, the Democratic Party of Washington Heights, the Jewish Labor Committee, the Washington Heights Citizen and the Chaits Hotel Public Relations Office. In 1983, he was awarded “Best Black and White Print of the Year”, from the Metropolitan Camera Club. He showed his work with the Nexus Gallery, in the East Village, New York City, from 1999 – 2001.
STATEMENT “Witness – A Legacy” presents the pain and suffering of a conflicted world. We can only fix the world, our mandate of Tikkun Olam, if we are aware of the dangers of apathy. In Annenberg’s own words, the objective of these prints is “to work to save our planet, to stop the killing fields, to stop pollution, to save our parks and forests – and to leave a world that our children can live in, in safely and in peace.” The community is invited to an opening
reception following Sabbath services on Friday evening, January 20, 2012,
from approximately 8:30 pm - 9:30 pm. Please
call the synagogue for further open hours of the Gold Gallery.
