HEBREW TABERNACLE CONGREGATION Organist Evan Griffith |
|
Hebrew Tabernacle’s new organist Evan Jacob Griffith is in his senior year of high school at Horace Mann School, and at the Manhattan School of Music Pre-College division, where he studies pipe organ with McNeil Robinson and Dr. Stephen Hamilton. Evan began his organ studies with Pedro d’Aquino, and first played publicly at his own Bar Mitzvah service at Temple Emanu-El. He also plays violin with the Horace Mann Orchestra, and has performed in Canada, Argentina, Vienna, Prague and Budapest, where he was able to play the famous Dohany Street Synagogue organ. In addition to his position as organist at Hebrew Tabernacle, Evan is also currently Organ Scholar at Temple Emanu-El in Manhattan. He accompanies religious school and certain holiday worship services, including the High Holy Day family services in the Main Sanctuary. Evan is the founder, president and conductor of Horace Mann Music Outreach, a community service organization comprised of musicians who play for nursing homes, hospitals and community centers throughout the city. This past year, Evan has been awarded the Charlotte Hoyt Bagnall Music Scholarship and has been invited to be a Biggs Fellow at the 2010 Organ Historical Society national convention. Evan is delighted to be able to share his love of Jewish
liturgical organ music with the Hebrew Tabernacle
Congregation. He can be reached at organist@hebrewtabernacle.org.
